The Orchestra Program For four decades, the El Centro Elementary School District has fostered a fantastic instrumental program. Established by Carolyn Sechrist, the orchestra program in the El Centro schools has provided students with a strong foundation in music education. The district-wide curricular program starts students with basic instruction on violin, viola, and cello in the fifth grade. Course Description The orchestra classes here at Wilson inspire seventh and eighth grade students at various skill levels to expand their passion for music and to be their personal best. Students’ placement in periods two or three have been structured to provide unique learning and leading opportunities. The full range of these classes gives every student a place to become their personal best in the midst of others at a similar level. For the first semester, each period will cover the same material and students may be transferred from one class to the other depending on their achievement. Throughout the year we will be breaking up into small ensembles, which provide a unique and varied experience that enables students to experience a wide range of musical activities in addition to the large orchestra setting. Mission The mission of this orchestra is to provide a strong foundation in music and increase students’ skills and appreciation for his/her instrument all while bestowing a sense of pride for our school, district, and community. Course Goal Students in the orchestra program will achieve a higher technical skill on their instrument while obtaining broader musical awareness. The music selection for this orchestra will challenge individuals and also provide the ensemble with opportunities to experience many genres of music while setting a standard of excellence. |
